Famous glass maker René Lalique first started to make car mascots in the 1920s at the height of the Art Deco period; pieces of fine art in the form of animals and female models. They were used by wealthy car owners of the day to fix on to the front of their bonnets and were often lit from beneath and the faster the car was driven the brighter the Lalique car mascot would shine.
